The single biggest issue with viral medical graphics is cutting off sentences to imply life-threatening illnesses:

• Vertical vs. Horizontal Ridges: Harmless aging ridges run vertically (up and down). Horizontal lines (Beau’s lines) running side-to-side are more likely to indicate a temporary halt in nail growth due to illness or stress.
• Dark Pigment Strips: A single dark brown or black vertical band (melanonychia) warrants medical evaluation, but clear, raised longitudinal texture lines do not.
• Clickbait Fear Tactics: Social media pages intentionally leave medical terms unfinished (e.g., hinting at “cancer” or “calcium deficiency”) solely to manipulate user anxiety into comment section engagement.
