Part 4: Common DIY Powders and What They Actually Do

Viral posts typically push household staples or natural powders under the guise of secret recipes:

  • Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate): Helps neutralize acid in the mouth and gently removes surface stains, but it does not remineralize enamel or fill holes.
  • Nano-Hydroxyapatite (nHAp): A mineral compound that bonds to tooth enamel to repair microscopic surface micro-fissures and reduce sensitivity.
  • Calcium Carbonate or Bentonite Clay: Used in natural toothpastes for mild abrasive polishing, but completely incapable of curing active decay.
  • Coconut Oil (Oil Pulling): Reduces oral bacteria levels to support general gum health, but has zero effect on structural cavities.
