Part 4: How to Stop an Active Leg Cramp Immediately
When a cramp strikes in the dark, immediate relief comes down to target stretching:
- Flex Your Foot Upward: Dorsiflex your foot by pulling your toes straight up toward your shin. This forcibly elongates the contracted calf muscle.
- Stand Up & Put Weight on the Leg: Step out of bed and firmly press your foot flat into the floor; bearing weight forces the muscle out of its spasm.
- Wall Stretch: Stand facing a wall, place your hands against it, step the cramping leg back, and press your heel firmly into the ground.
- Apply Local Heat: Massage the knotted muscle or apply a warm compress to increase blood flow and encourage fibers to loosen.
