Part 4: How IGH Differs From Other White Spot Conditions

It’s helpful to distinguish IGH from other conditions that cause pale or white skin patches:

• Tinea Versicolor: A fungal infection that causes scaly, itchy, blotchy pale patches on the back or chest, which clears up with antifungal treatment.
• Vitiligo: An autoimmune condition causing larger, expanding patches of total pigment loss, often appearing symmetrically on joints, face, and hands.
• Pityriasis Alba: Dry, slightly scaly pale patches commonly seen on children’s cheeks and arms, often linked to mild eczema.
• Post-Inflammatory Hypopigmentation: Lightened skin left behind after a scrape, burn, or insect bite has healed.
