PART 3: THE UNBROKEN TRUST

Vanessa stopped pacing, sensing the sudden, heavy shift in the room as she marched over to snatch the paper from Marcus’s hand.

“What is this?” she demanded, her sharp tone cracking with frustration. “Marcus, you told me your family owned this estate outright!”

“He didn’t,” I said, looking directly into Marcus’s shocked, bloodshot eyes. “Your father was facing foreclosure and total financial ruin because of the loans you took out in his name before you vanished.”

I took a deep breath, turning the page of the ledger to reveal the official receipt of full debt satisfaction signed by the bank.

“I didn’t spend the last three years crying in the dark, Marcus,” I continued, holding my head high. “I worked two jobs, paid off every single cent of your father’s debt, and cared for him until his very last breath.”

Marcus dropped heavily into a chair, his face drained of all color as the weight of his past cowardice crashed over him.

“In return for saving his legacy,” I added softly, “your father legally transferred the sole ownership of this property into a irrevocable private trust.”

A trust that named me as the absolute owner, completely cutting out the son who had abandoned his family when they needed him most.
