PART 3: THE CHAOS AT THE RECEPTION

Preston charged toward the stage, his hands clenched into tight fists as he screamed for security to shut down the system.

Before he could reach the steps, the men in dark suits flashed official federal badges and formed an impenetrable wall around him.

“Preston Vance, you are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and conspiracy,” the lead special agent announced in a booming voice.

Pandemonium broke out across the ballroom as guests scrambled to distance themselves from the disgraced host family.

Preston’s mother tried to slip through a side service door, only to find two armed agents waiting for her on the other side.

The $100 bill Preston had thrown so carelessly at my mother still lay on the marble floor near his expensive leather shoes.

I walked down from the stage, picked up the bill, and placed it firmly back into Preston’s breast pocket as the handcuffs clicked behind his wrists.
