THE WEDDING DRESS TRAP

PART 4: FREEDOM AND FORGIVENESS

Paige covered her face with her hands, breaking down into heavy, silent sobs right in front of the altar.

Instead of gloating, I stepped forward and held out my hand to her, offering the comfort our mother always wished we could share.

“You don’t have to run anymore, Paige,” I whispered softly so only she could hear. “Mom wanted you to be free of this bitterness.”

Paige looked up at me, the arrogance completely gone from her eyes, replaced by a genuine, raw plea for forgiveness.

She quietly stepped back to take her place in the front pew next to Mom’s empty chair, wrapping herself in our mother’s blue scarf.

Ethan held my hands as Pastor Reynolds began our vows, the air in the church finally feeling light, peaceful, and clean.

I married the love of my life surrounded by truth, knowing that our family’s long shadow had finally given way to bright, unyielding light.
