PART 2: SIRENS AT THE GATE

The pain came in sharp, relentless waves as I leaned my back against the cold tile wall of the bathroom. Outside, the muffled sound of upbeat party music continued to echo through the vents, completely oblivious to my agony.

Ten minutes felt like an eternity when every breath was a fight against the rising fear for my unborn child. I dragged myself toward the small frosted glass window above the vanity, trying to see if help was anywhere nearby.

Suddenly, the distant rhythm of heavy sirens began to cut through the vineyard’s carefully curated atmosphere. The party music abruptly stumbled and cut out entirely, replaced by the chaotic murmur of three hundred confused guests.

I heard heavy boots echoing down the service corridor, followed by Victoria’s shrill voice demanding to know why state vehicles were driving over her pristine manicured lawns.

“Break down that door!” Agent Voss’s voice boomed through the hallway with absolute authority.

The bathroom lock shattered inward, and paramedic teams rushed into the room alongside armed state troopers.

As I was carefully lifted onto a gurney, I saw Evan and Victoria standing in the corridor, pinned against the gilded wall by federal agents holding unsealed federal arrest warrants.
