PART 3: THE SPOTLIGHT OF TRUTH
The grand auditorium fell completely silent as Dean Jonathan Bradley walked up to the podium, his voice echoing through the surround-sound system.
“Ladies and gentlemen, today we honor an extraordinary scholar who has revolutionized our department’s medical research,” the dean announced.
In the front row, my father clapped politely, while Haley adjusted her dress, posing as if the spotlight was about to shift toward her.
“She has earned top honors, secured a multi-million dollar grant, and maintained the highest academic record in university history,” Dean Bradley continued with immense pride.
“Please welcome our Valedictorian, chief research award recipient, and commencement speaker—Dr. Clara Hensley!”
The entire auditorium erupted into thunderous applause as the massive LED screens above the stage zoomed in directly on my face.
My father’s hands froze mid-clap as his jaw dropped, his face turning a ghostly pale shade of white.
Beside him, my stepmother gasped in pure horror, dropping her expensive phone onto the hardwood floor as Haley stared up at the screen in disbelief.
I stood up slowly, walked gracefully to the center stage podium, and adjusted the microphone with complete composure.
