PART 3: THE LOCKOUT
Inside the dining room, panic spread faster than the Christmas cheer they had so casually put on display.
The caterer demanded immediate cash payment, threatening to call the police and confiscate the remaining food and alcohol on the spot.
Meanwhile, a tow truck dispatched by my logistics company pulled into the driveway, backing up to the sleek black SUV Evan drove.
Evan rushed out of the front doors, red-faced and screaming threats into the cool California air.
“You can’t do this! This is my car!” he yelled as the driver attached the heavy chains to the axle.
“Check the registration, pal,” the driver replied, handing him a legal notice of asset repossession signed by my corporate legal team.
As Evan stood frozen on the driveway, Claire ran outside with her phone in hand, trying frantically to dial my number.
Her call went straight to voicemail, where my recorded greeting reminded callers that business hours would resume in the new year.
