PART 2: THE RECEPTION AMBUSH

The wedding day arrived under a clear sky, but the tension inside me was heavier than storm clouds. Caleb looked handsome in his tuxedo, his face illuminated with absolute joy as he danced with his new bride, Hannah.

Suddenly, the music faded as Judith walked toward the central microphone near the head table, carrying a thick leather binder in her hands.

The room fell quiet, assuming the groom’s grandmother was stepping up to offer a traditional blessing or toast to the newlyweds.

Instead, Judith tapped the glass with a fork, her face set in a cold, triumphant smile as she looked directly at me.

“Before we celebrate this union,” Judith announced into the microphone, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings, “there is a shadow over this family that needs to be brought to light.”
