The blood did not belong to me, nor was it animal blood; it matched a high-profile cold case involving a local real estate heiress who had vanished four years ago—a property deal that had built Daniel’s entire investment portfolio.

Vanessa had stolen those antique scissors from that very estate, completely unaware that the physical evidence of a violent crime had been preserved within the rusted joint for years.

I spent the rest of the night cross-referencing the financial ledgers with the victim’s offshore property deeds, uncovering a paper trail of extortion signed directly by Daniel and Vanessa’s brother.
