Six months after walking away with nothing, I walked into the county courthouse for our final divorce settlement hearing, visibly glowing with my pregnancy.

Darren sat at the defense table, looking smug alongside Selene, who looked noticeably uneasy holding her newborn.

When Darren caught sight of me, his eyes widened, and he let out a cruel, mocking laugh across the gallery.

“Whose poor sap did you trick into this?” Darren sneered loudly. “Everyone knows you can’t carry children, Maya!”

That was the exact moment Silas Hart walked into the courtroom, dressed in a sharp dark suit, carrying a thick leather federal briefcase.

The presiding judge stood up immediately upon seeing Silas, greeting him with profound respect as “Director Hart.”

Darren’s face drained of every ounce of color as he recognized the legendary investigator whose name struck terror into corporate fraudsters across the state.
