PART 3: THE BROKEN SILENCE

Suddenly, the front door swung wide open, breaking the tense silence of the room.

Daniel walked in carrying a bag of groceries, a relaxed smile on his face that instantly vanished the moment his eyes landed on me crumpled on the floor.

“Emily?” He dropped the bags without thinking, eggs cracking open across the foyer floor.

“Daniel, thank God…” I whispered, stretching out a weak, blood-stained hand toward him.

“She’s fine, Dan,” Margaret interjected quickly, stepping directly between them to block his path. “She’s just being dramatic because Ryan bumped into her. Tell her to get up off the floor; it’s embarrassing.”

Daniel didn’t listen to a single word. He forcefully pushed past his mother, his eyes locking onto the pool of blood spreading across the rug.

He noticed my phone lying unreachable on the counter, then looked at Linda’s guilty, shifting expression. In that single moment, the peaceful, easygoing husband I knew completely vanished.

His face went deathly pale before turning a deep, furious red. “Did you do this?” he hissed at Linda, his voice trembling with pure rage. “Did you take her phone?”

“She was overreacting—” Linda started to excuse herself.

“Get out!” Daniel roared, the sheer power of his command making Ryan burst into terrified tears. “Both of you. Get out of this house right now!”
