Susan stood at the center of the grand ballroom, adjusting the microphone as silence swept across the room.
Monica’s face was already red with anger, her hand clutching her wealthy fiancé’s arm so tightly her knuckles turned white.
“Ten years ago, my husband started a small logistics firm from the back of his old pickup truck,” Susan spoke into the microphone, her voice echoing clearly.
“He worked eighteen-hour days, not for fame or luxury, but to make sure his son never went to sleep hungry.”
The crowd stared in awe as Susan revealed that my company had grown into one of the state’s largest distribution networks—the exact firm that Monica’s fiancé’s family had been trying to partner with for months.
Monica gasped, her eyes darting between me and Susan in sheer disbelief as whispers began breaking out among the wealthy guests.
