THE SECRETS OF THE VANCE ESTATE

PART 3: THE ACCOUNTING OF BETRAYAL

The words hung in the warm air of the room like a heavy weight, dropping the temperature in the space instantly. Mrs. Gable, standing just outside the doorway, let out a sharp gasp, her face draining of every drop of color until she looked like a ghost.

Alexander took three slow, deliberate steps into the room, his gaze shifting from his grandfather’s tear-filled eyes down to the pathetic food tray sitting on the side table. He saw the cold, congealed oatmeal, the stale crusts of bread, and the single glass of lukewarm tap water.

His eyes then drifted to me—a pregnant maid wearing a worn apron, kneeling on the hard floor, holding his grandfather’s hand with gentle, protective care. He noticed the red, irritated skin on my hands from scrubbing floors, and the subtle, instinctive way I held my stomach to shelter my unborn child from the tension.

“Explain this,” Alexander said quietly, his voice dropping into a deadly, quiet register that was far more dangerous than any shout.

Mrs. Gable scrambled into the room, wringing her hands nervously as tears of panic welled in her eyes. “Mr. Vance! You can’t believe him! He’s confused! His mind has been deteriorating for years! This maid… she broke protocol! She wasn’t supposed to be in here!”

Arthur’s grip on my wrist tightened surprisingly fast, giving me the courage to stand up and face the multi-billionaire directly. I looked Alexander straight in the eye, refusing to let them turn my quiet compassion into a crime.

“They haven’t lit his fire in weeks,” I said firmly, my voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through my veins. “They feed him scraps while charging your accounts for gourmet catering. They leave him in the dark because they think he doesn’t matter anymore.”

Alexander didn’t interrupt me. He walked over to the side table, picked up the cold bowl of oatmeal, and stared at it before turning his head toward the house manager, who had just rushed down the hallway.

“Bring me the master financial ledgers and the security logs for the past three years,” Alexander commanded calmly, pulling a slim black smartphone from his tailored jacket pocket. “Now.”

Within ten minutes, two armored vehicles carrying Vance Security operatives arrived at the front gates, locking down every exit of the estate. The house manager and Mrs. Gable were escorted into the grand study, where Alexander personally reviewed the digital records with terrifying speed.

What he uncovered was a massive, sophisticated embezzling scheme that went far beyond mere neglect. Mrs. Gable and the estate manager had been pocketing over fifty thousand dollars a month meant for specialized nursing care, organic nutrition, and physical therapy.

To keep the money flowing without suspicion, they had heavily sedated Arthur with unprescribed tranquilizers, ensuring he remained completely uncommunicative and bedridden whenever doctors or auditors conducted brief virtual check-ins.

They had systematically stripped the founding patriarch of his voice, his health, and his dignity just to line their own pockets—all while treating the staff like disposable labor.

Alexander closed the laptop with a heavy, final thud that sounded like a courtroom gavel. He looked up at the trembling conspirators with an expression of pure, unadulterated judgment.

“You took my family’s money,” Alexander said softly, “and you tortured the man who gave me everything. You will not leave this property until the police arrive.”

As the security team restrained the sobbing supervisors, Alexander turned his attention back to the quiet maid who had undone five years of cruelty with a single bowl of warm food.
