Marcus stared at the yellowed paper in absolute disbelief, his knuckles turning white as his hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
Vanessa snatched the letter from his grip, scanning the formal notarized paragraphs detailing the financial collapse Marcus had fled from three years ago.
When Marcus vanished, he hadn’t just abandoned a marriage; he had run away from a hidden six-figure debt that would have bankrupted his father and sent his family estate into immediate foreclosure.
Robert Hale had been dying, crushed by the weight of loans his son had secretly taken out in the business’s name before fleeing the country.

“She paid off your debts, Marcus,” Vanessa whispered, her arrogant demeanor cracking as she looked at the mountain of legal receipts attached to the letter.
