Jordan and I had been together for twenty years, and I truly believed we had a happy marriage. I believed it when he proposed after college and when I gave birth to our four children.
A few months ago, another woman’s message lit up his phone. I was holding our six-month-old daughter when I demanded an explanation.
Jordan said, “I’m with Percy now. We’ve been together for over a year. I don’t want to waste any more time on a woman who’s NO LONGER ATTRACTIVE to me.”
Percy was his secretary. She was beautiful, tall, and about ten years younger. I had been pregnant with our baby while he cheated on me.
My heart shattered. Then came the divorce, one of the hardest times of my life.
As our son’s fifteenth birthday approached, he wanted a huge pool party with the whole family and all his friends. I made it happen.
Then Jordan texted, “I’ll bring Percy. She’s PART OF MY FAMILY too.” I desperately wanted him to see I was doing just fine.
So I contacted an acting agency. They sent an actor named Clark, who agreed TO PRETEND to be my boyfriend.
When I first saw him, I was speechless. He was tall, handsome, and completely out of my league. I almost canceled everything.
But Clark smiled. “Don’t you want him to see how happy you are without him?” So I went through with it.
I was standing beside Clark when Jordan and Percy walked over. Jordan burst out laughing.
“He’d NEVER be with you. HAVE YOU EVEN LOOKED AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR?” I wanted the ground to swallow me.
Then Clark smiled, handed Jordan a GIFT BOX, and said he also had something for the birthday boy’s father. Jordan opened it.
His face turned white as a ghost. He screamed SO LOUDLY the entire street heard him.
And me? I COULDN’T STOP SMILING.
