PART 3: THE PANIC AT DAWN
At six in the morning, Rodrigo woke up expecting to smell fresh coffee, baked pastries, and roasted meats filling the entire house.
Instead, he walked downstairs into complete silence, finding the kitchen in the exact same state of chaos as the night before.
Boxes of uncooked seafood were thawing on the counter, the dough was completely frozen, and the empty aluminum trays sat untouched.
Panicked, he sprinted to the refrigerator and saw the cooking list taped to the door alongside the wedding ring sitting on the ice.
Estela rushed into the kitchen minutes later in her silk robe, her face turning pale as she realized no food had been prepared for their fifty distinguished guests.
“Where is she?” Estela shrieked, frantically checking the pantry while Rodrigo repeatedly dialed my number, only to get my voicemail every single time.
With the party starting in just three hours, Rodrigo and his mother were forced to face the harsh reality that they had nobody left to save their lie.
