My hands shook as I held the forged patent transfer agreements, noticing a third signature at the bottom of every contract—a name that made my heart drop into my stomach.
It was my uncle, Richard, the chairman of our board who had always pretended to be my greatest mentor after my father passed away.
Richard had promised Grant full control of the restructured company once I was driven out, using Tessa as a spy within our family to keep tabs on my brother Mason’s division.
“They thought they could dismantle our father’s legacy while breaking our hearts,” Mason said softly, standing in the doorway of the study with a cold, sharp focus in his eyes.
We didn’t call the police immediately. Instead, we called an emergency meeting of the board of directors for 8:00 a.m., handing every piece of evidence to our legal counsel.
When Uncle Richard walked into the boardroom expecting a routine morning meeting, he was greeted by federal investigators and forensic accountants waiting at the head table.
