Dominic turned toward the elevator, his confident expression instantly freezing into sheer terror as his eyes landed on me and our daughter. The champagne glass in his hand wobbled violently, spilling sparkling liquid across his crisp white cuff.
“Vivienne…” he stammered, stepping away from the woman in green as if she had suddenly caught fire. “What are you doing here? You were supposed to be at home.”
“I brought your daughter to give you a gift,” I said, my voice echoing clearly over the fading violin music as every eye in the room turned toward us. “But it seems you’ve already claimed a family that isn’t yours.”
Before Dominic could stammer out another lie, every phone in the ballroom chimed in unison with high-priority emergency alerts. The screen behind the main stage flashed red as the board of directors received urgent notifications that all Sterling capital was being pulled from the firm immediately.
My eldest brother, Julian Sterling, stepped out from the main entrance doors flanked by four senior corporate attorneys and two federal auditors. “Dominic Vance,” Julian announced calmly, “your credit lines are canceled, your corporate assets are frozen, and your tenure as CEO is terminated effective sixty seconds ago.”
