PART 2: THE UNKNOWN LEGACY
My heart hammered against my ribs as I stepped between my children and the man who had disowned me eight years ago.
“Dad, get off my porch,” I said, my voice shaking with years of suppressed anger. “You don’t get to come here and yell at my kids.”
My father didn’t seem to hear me; his eyes remained pinned to my six-year-old son, Leo, and my four-year-old daughter, Maya.
“Where did he get those eyes?” my father stammered, his hand trembling as he pointed toward Leo. “That ring… on Malcolm’s finger…”
Malcolm stepped out from behind the screen door, his posture tall and composed, placing a protective hand on my shoulder.
My father looked at Malcolm not as a former employee, but with a sudden, horrifying realization that made his knees buckle.
“You knew,” my father whispered, clutching the porch railing. “All these years, you knew who your grandfather was.”
