Little Noah stepped forward, looking up at Daniel with bright, curious eyes that mirrored Daniel’s own exact shade of blue.
“Are you the man who ran away because you were scared of us?” Noah asked, his voice ringing clearly through the silent grand living room.
A collective gasp echoed across the room as Daniel’s family turned their stares directly toward him, horrified by the child’s raw truth.
Daniel’s girlfriend, Chloe, stepped away from him as if he had suddenly turned into a stranger, her eyes wide with shock and betrayal.
“Daniel, you told me your ex-wife couldn’t have children,” Chloe whispered, her voice trembling with rising anger. “You told me she was bitter and alone!”
Daniel stammered, reaching out a trembling hand toward me, but he couldn’t find a single word to excuse the massive lie he had constructed for eight years.
His mother rushed past him, tears streaming down her face as she dropped to her knees in front of the four children, completely overwhelmed by the undeniable family resemblance.
