Zora’s voice trembled slightly as she opened the thick folder, her words echoing loudly off the high vaulted ceilings of the arena. She revealed that for the past four years, all three of them had secretly pooled their scholarship funds, work-study earnings, and side-job paychecks into a single account. They hadn’t just studied for their degrees; they had been working tirelessly toward a hidden goal of their own.

My knees felt terribly weak as I leaned heavily against the wooden railing for support, unable to comprehend what she was describing.
