“You sacrificed my career twenty-five years ago so you could ‘protect’ this family,” I said, stepping back from the broken glass. “And then you used my trust to sign away our entire life.”

I didn’t scream, smash plates, or cry. The paralegal inside me—dormant for two decades—woke up in an instant.

While Robert sat buried in his hands at the ruined dinner table, frantically begging for another chance, I walked into the home office, locked the door, and dialed my old law firm’s emergency partner line.

By 2:00 AM, my former boss had routed me to a top-tier forensic accountant and a ruthless family law attorney.

“If he forged your signature on federal lending documents,” my attorney explained over speakerphone, “you need to file for divorce and asset separation before the courts freeze your personal identity along with his corporate liabilities at 8:00 AM on Monday.”

“Draft the papers,” I said without hesitation. “I’ll be at your office when you open.”
