“You can’t do this to us!” Justin choked out, gasping for air as I released his arm with cold indifference. “We’re your family! You owe us everything after leaving us alone for your precious career!” Patricia began to wail hysterically, pulling her phone out to call the local police, completely unaware that local authorities had zero jurisdiction over a military-directed asset seizure.

I picked up my briefcase, looking both of them dead in the eye with the calm authority of a commanding officer addressing insubordinate troops. “Every dollar in this house was earned by my service,” I said softly, every word cut like a razor blade. “And by noon today, federal auditors will be reviewing every single signature your mother forged using my government credentials.”

Justin’s eyes widened in sheer terror as he realized the magnitude of the legal avalanche sliding directly toward his head. He tried to scramble for his truck keys on the counter, desperate to reach the offshore bank before the freeze went live.
