PART 2: The Call

PART 5: The Final Reckoning

The entire family crammed into the living room, a suffocating silence falling over the crowd as Mr. Harrison opened the folder on the coffee table.

“Over the last five years,” Harrison began, “Mrs. Vance established a revocable living trust that granted her children and grandchildren monthly dividends from her commercial holdings.”

He paused, looking up from the papers to scan the anxious, greedy faces staring back at him.

“However, Clause Four explicitly states that continued distribution is contingent upon active familial care and proven presence during major medical milestones,” Harrison read smoothly. “As of 4:00 PM today, Mrs. Vance has officially transferred full power of attorney and sole inheritance rights to Leo.”

Gasps and shouts erupted around the room, but Grandma simply held my hand, her eyes clear and untroubled as she looked at the people who had abandoned her.

“You came for the money,” Grandma said softly, her voice carrying more authority than ever before. “Leo came for me.”

They tried to apologize, to cry, to crawl back—but the door was already closed.
