• Microscopic Size: Real lash mites (Demodex folliculorum) are invisible to the naked eye, measuring only about 0.3 to 0.4 millimeters.
• Natural Inhabitants: They live harmlessly inside the hair follicles and oil glands of almost all adult humans, feeding on dead skin cells.
• Usually Harmless: Under normal circumstances, they cause zero symptoms, pain, or visible signs.
• When Overgrowth Happens: An overpopulation of Demodex can trigger blepharitis (eyelid inflammation), causing itching, redness, and crusty buildup at the base of the lashes.
