Part 2: The Science of Fabric Dye Loss

The orange or yellowish spots shown on dark clothing aren’t stains sitting on top of the fabric—they are areas where the original dye has been permanently stripped away.

Common culprits like household bleach, benzoyl peroxide acne washes, and acidic cleaning agents break down dye molecules on contact. Once dye molecules are chemically destroyed, no amount of wiping or soaking can magically bring the original color back.
