Part 4: Physical Prevention Strategies That Actually Work
Relying on powders alone won’t stop roaches if the entry points remain completely open:
- Use Drain Covers or Stoppers: Place mesh drain strainers or rubber stoppers over sink openings at night when roaches are most active.
- Seal Pipe Gaps: Inspect under-sink cabinets and use expanding foam or silicone caulk to seal gaps where pipes pass through walls.
- Fix Dripping Faucets: Eliminate standing water sources by repairing leaks; roaches can survive for weeks without food, but only days without moisture.
- Maintain the P-Trap: Keep water in seldom-used sinks—a full water barrier in the P-trap blocks pests from crawling up through sewer pipes.
