PART 2: The Whispered Deception
“Emily, you need to come home right now,” I whispered, my eyes locked on Joon as he nervously adjusted his collar inside. I refused to explain over the phone, terrified that she might panic while driving through the congested city traffic. She heard the raw terror in my voice and promised to leave her desk immediately, leaving me alone outside in the damp midnight chill to process the monstrous truth.
I crept closer to the cracked kitchen window, listening intently as Young-ho’s voice rose again in furious, suppressed anger. He demanded to know how Joon planned to cover up the massive financial debts and secret child he had hidden before the wedding. Joon’s response was ice-cold, admitting he had calculatedly targeted Emily specifically for her high-paying corporate position and foreign immunity status to clear his illegal gambling loans.
My blood ran completely cold as the full scope of his calculated betrayal became terrifyingly clear. He had never loved my daughter; she was merely a golden life raft keeping him out of a dark prison cell.
How far was Joon willing to go to protect his secret? Go to the next part to discover the horrifying truth…
