Two days passed, and Ethan had ignored every single call from the hospital, assuming I was throwing a childish temper tantrum to guilt-trip him.
He spent forty-eight hours boasting to his family about how he had finally “put his unreasonable wife in her place.”
On Monday morning, Ethan drove his luxury sedan down our quiet suburban street, smirking as he envisioned walking inside to find me apologetic.
He turned the corner toward our house, expecting to see my modest sedan parked in the bay.
Instead, his breath caught in his throat as he saw heavy armored military transport vehicles lining our entire driveway.
Armed officers in tactical gear stood guard along the perimeter of our lawn, blocking the street from public access.
Ethan slowed his car down, his smug smile completely vanishing as two heavily armed officers stepped into the road and motioned for him to stop.
Panic flared in his chest as he rolled down his window, stammering, “What is going on here? This is my property!”
A senior officer tapped on his window with a steel glove and said, “Mr. Ethan Vance, step out of the vehicle with your hands behind your head immediately.”
