My six-year-old daughter squeezed my hand so tightly her tiny fingers hurt. She couldn’t stop smiling. She had spent all afternoon making a paper necklace for her daddy. She kept whispering, “He’s going to wear it tonight.”
Then we reached the elevators. His secretary looked me up and down… smiled… and said the one sentence that changed everything.
“His wife and son are already waiting upstairs.”
For a second… I thought I had misheard. Then she laughed. Not politely. Cruelly. She wanted everyone in the lobby to hear. “Honestly, you should leave before security escorts you out.”
Around us, conversations stopped. People began staring. My daughter tugged gently at my sleeve. “Mommy… where’s Daddy?”
Her voice was so small it shattered something inside me. I knelt down and covered her ears with both hands. Then I stood back up.
I didn’t argue. I didn’t cry. I simply reached into my handbag and made one phone call. Because the woman standing in front of me thought I was just another forgotten wife. She had no idea who I was.
Before I married Dominic… I was Vivienne Sterling. A name powerful enough to open boardroom doors… or close them forever.
For years, my family secretly kept Dominic’s company alive. The loans. The investors. The emergency financing. Every time his business should have collapsed… my brothers quietly saved it.
He never knew. Neither did his secretary.
My brother answered on the first ring. “What happened?”
I looked straight into Chloe’s satisfied smile. Then I gave only one instruction. “Take away everything he thinks he owns.”
There was a long silence. Then my brother answered with four chilling words. “It’s already happening, Viv.”
