I believed my husband had surprised me with one hundred yellow roses while he was out of town—until I counted every flower and immediately contacted the police.
The delivery appeared a little after midday. An enormous arrangement of exactly one hundred yellow roses was waiting on my doorstep.
There was no card attached. No sender’s name. Only my own name printed clearly on the delivery tag.
At first, I smiled. My husband was away on a week-long work trip, so I assumed he had arranged the flowers before leaving as an unexpected romantic gesture.
The bouquet was stunning. Yet the longer I studied it, the more uneasy I became. Something about it felt wrong.
My husband knew that white roses had always been my favourite. Through all our years together, he had never once chosen yellow flowers for me.
Then I noticed something else: the quantity. Exactly one hundred roses. Not ninety-eight, not ninety-nine, and not one hundred and one.
The florist’s receipt confirmed the precise number. One hundred. I stood there staring at the bouquet, unable to explain why that detail bothered me so much.
Yellow roses can carry several meanings. To some people, they represent friendship. To others, jealousy. But in certain traditions, they symbolise a final farewell—a goodbye with no intention of returning.
A cold sensation moved through me. I called my husband, but he did not answer. I sent him a message asking whether he had arranged the delivery, but still received nothing.
When I looked at the bouquet again, another strange detail suddenly became impossible to ignore. The flowers were not positioned randomly.
Several roses near the centre appeared intentionally placed, almost as though whoever arranged them wanted me to examine that section more carefully.
Without fully understanding why, I began counting. Ten rows. Ten roses in each row. The entire arrangement was perfectly balanced—except for one section.
Near the middle, I noticed a tiny red mark hidden beneath the petal of a yellow rose. At first, I assumed it was a natural stain. Then I found a second mark, and a third.
Exactly three roses had been marked in red. My pulse began racing as I recognised that pattern from many years earlier.
My hands were already trembling when I reached for my phone. This time, I did not call my husband again—I called the police. But the mysterious bouquet was only the beginning. The most terrifying discovery came one hour later.
