part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

The low humming sound grew sharper, vibrating through the thick soles of Marcus’s leathery feet. 🚨

He pulled his tongue back into his mouth, his goofy expression instantly hardening into a mask of pure steel.

The shift in his posture was so sudden and dramatic that the laughing crowd went completely silent in a heartbeat.

The playful, mocking giant was gone; in his place sat a towering wall of raw, focused silverback muscle.

He uncrossed his massive hands, placing them flat on the ground, his knuckles digging into the soft earth.

Through the glass, the man in the safari hat wasn’t looking at Marcus anymore; he was backing away through the crowd.

His movements were too smooth, too deliberate, completely lacking the clumsy nature he had displayed just moments before.

Marcus tracked him through the dense throng of tourists, his dark eyes cutting through the bright colors of human clothing.

The small black cylinder near the glass began to pulse with a faint, rhythmic blue light, matching the frequency of the hum.

Marcus knew the sanctuary rules better than anyone; nothing electronic was ever supposed to be on his side of the barrier.

And certainly, nothing was supposed to be left behind that made the birds in the upper canopy stop their singing.

The silence in the trees was absolute now, a sudden drop in nature’s audio that signaled immediate danger. 🦅

Marcus stood up on all fours, his massive silver back catching the sunlight as he moved toward the glass structure.

The tourists took a collective step back, suddenly remembering that the funny animal was a force of absolute nature.

He stopped just inches from the glass, looking down at the small pulsing device, then up at the retreating hat.

The man was almost at the exit gates of the pavilion, slipping past the distracted park rangers with ease.

Marcus raised his right hand, his massive, heavy fingers forming a loose fist as he hovered over the glass.

He didn’t hit it to break it; he struck it once with a controlled, resonant thud that vibrated through the structure.

The sound echoed like a bass drum through the entire valley, causing everyone in the pavilion to freeze in their tracks.

The park rangers immediately looked toward Marcus, knowing that a single deliberate strike meant something was wrong.

Marcus pointed one massive, dark finger directly at the base of the glass where the cylinder was pulsing.

Head Ranger Sarah, who had worked with Marcus for nearly a decade, caught the movement instantly from the back.

She sprinted forward, her boots loud on the concrete, pushing past the confused tourists to see what the silverback wanted.

When she saw the blinking black cylinder, her face went completely pale, her hand immediately flying to her radio. 📻

“Code Red at the primate exhibit,” Sarah barked into the transmitter, her eyes scanning the fleeing crowd. “We have an unauthorized sensor placement.”

Marcus didn’t wait for the humans to figure out the rest; he looked back toward the exit gate where the man was moving.

He let out a deep, guttural bark—a sound he usually reserved for warning the youth of his troop about leopards.

The man in the safari hat heard the bark and broke into a full sprint, throwing off his yellow hat as he ran.

Underneath the hat, he wore a sophisticated earpiece, his true identity as an illegal bio-tracker completely exposed.

The sensor he had dropped was designed to map Marcus’s unique vocal frequencies for a black-market capture operation.
